Join us as we create HypatiaStories, crowdsourced narrative stories about amazing women in the fields of data and AI. An AI voice storyteller that can be readily utilized by modern day technology. We chose the name “HypatiaStories” for this agent to honor Hypatia of Alexandria, the 5th-century philosopher and teacher who was the pre-eminent mathematician and astronomer of her time. |
WHY CONVERSATIONAL STORYTELLING?
Stories ignite our sense of adventure, give context to history and help shape the cultural identity of the world around us. Technology can shape how we consume stories, whether through radio, television, or podcasts. The next generation of audio storytelling will use AI to interact with you in your living room, kitchen, and car. Think podcasting within conversational AI. |
WE TELL STORIES OF WOMEIN IN:
HYPATIA'S ORIGIN STORY
Once upon a time, an AI was bit by a radioactive spider... Just kidding! In early July 2020, IVOW launched the Women in History Data Ideation Challenge, together with Topcoder. Our goal was to find public data sources about women throughout history and suggest how that data could be used to gain new insights for AI products and solutions. |
Thanks to the amazing work of the many participants in this challenge, we discovered an urgent need to incorporate women’s stories into AI. Throughout history, the contributions of women pioneers in science and computing have often been watered down, overshadowed, or simply undocumented. In the next chapter of our own story, we are creating HypatiaStories as an AI storyteller specifically for documenting and sharing the stories of women working in data and AI. |
