Thanks to Alex V. Cipolle for featuring our work at IVOW AI in the New York Times on March 22, 2022. The article is part of a limited series on artificial intelligence’s potential to solve everyday problems.
“In September 2021, Native American technology students in high school and college gathered at a conference in Phoenix and were asked to create photo tags — word associations, essentially — for a series of images. One image showed ceremonial sage in a seashell; another, a black-and-white photograph circa 1884, showed hundreds of Native American children lined up in uniform outside the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, one of the most prominent boarding schools run by the American government during the 19th and 20th centuries. The workshop presenters — Chamisa Edmo, a technologist and citizen of the Navajo Nation, who is also Blackfeet and Shoshone-Bannock; Tracy Monteith, a senior Microsoft engineer and member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians; and the journalist Davar Ardalan — then compared these answers with those produced by a major image recognition app.” Click here to read the full article. In 2022, Diversity and Inclusion chiefs have mandates to encourage their employees to pay attention to cultural diversity in and outside their enterprises. Enter IVOW AI’s Sina Storyteller, an interactive voice experience-in-the-making that can share the inspirational stories of your employees and company.
“We are excited to announce the next chapter of our startup story, as we continue to push the boundaries in storytelling for smart devices using conversational AI. We are now building Sina Storyteller, an HR Tech solution for companies to build diversity skills and recognize their employees through their own stories. You see, we know that voice solves distance issues. Sina can help increase our sense of re-connection even while companies are hybrid or remote.” says Davar Ardalan, founder of IVOW AI. Sina's first assignment is to create stories as part of the Women in AI Awards North America, an effort across the US, Mexico, and Canada. The hybrid awards festivities will take place on May 13, 2022 virtually and in-person in Washington D.C. to honor female pioneers who take the road less traveled; the women who pave the way for others to reach even further, and for those who dare to dream even bigger. The applications are open now, so make sure to nominate an amazing woman in the field of AI today: https://airtable.com/shrVkLaYaEnycjBUA Sponsors and partners of this first-ever awards program include us here at Topcoder, as well as Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute, The Institute for Education, IVOW AI, and GET Cities, an initiative designed to accelerate the leadership and representation of women, trans, and nonbinary people in tech, lead by SecondMuse Foundation and Break Through Tech and supported by Pivotal Ventures, a Melinda French Gates company. It has been an exciting albeit very challenging year for us IVOW AI, Inc. Thanking you, our team, our collaborators and partners and wishing you the very best as we close 2021 https://www.ivow.ai/
* We released a pioneering case study on Tagging Indigenous Values. * We launched LKL, our conversational AI scholar, in memory of the late Islamic scholar Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar. * We won Project Voice’s Google Assistant Developer of the Year for our diversity of approach on our Storytelling AI - Sina. * Together with Women in AI in Canada, Mexico and the US we are launching an awards summit in May 2022 to honor North American women in the field of AI. * We presented on Digital Heritage and AI at the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales. * We took centerstage at the Dubai Expo. Sadly, we have run into major funding issues and have had to put other development projects on hold until we have funding. This was not what I was hoping for but we have all done our very best under the circumstances. Our ideas and solutions are not yet commercially available and this is my failure. But we have inspired countless AI thinkers and technologists. We have shown remarkable intellectual leadership in this space. We can be proud of what we have accomplished this year. |
